Getting a sharp, clear image of a bird in flight (or BIF) is a goal of most avian photographers. Some people seem to have a knack for finding and following birds in a blank sky while the rest of us struggle.
There are so many simple things you can do in post-processing to improve your bird photography. Oh, if you are a purist and just do SOOC images, fine, catch you next time.
This is for those other folks who like to tweak their images a bit.
It really won't be long before birds are sporting breeding plumage and courting. We are seeing dark blue lores on Great Blue Herons, and other waders are sporting new feathers. Great Egrets will start building nests at High Island in February. In the mean time, we are chasing raptors and finding birds where we can.
Brazos Bend State Park has had some hard times the last few years with frequent closures due to flooding. We made a quick trip this week and things are looking good.
We made our last trip out before the cold weather blast on Friday, Dec 29 and it was a great way to wind up the year. Around 11 am we headed down to one of our favorite birding places, Surfside.
One of my favorite winter excursions is going to Galveston in hopes of finding Sandhill Cranes. We made a trip on Dec 15th and had pretty good luck, plus we checked out Bolivar for other winter visitors. The drive home in the extreme traffic will not be discussed.
Winter finally showed up in South Texas on Tuesday in the form of a front bringing gusty winds, lowered temperatures and quite a bit of rain. Just before the change we were in Galveston hunting for Sandhill Cranes without a lot of luck. We ended up on Sportsman Road.
Dec 1, 2017 ~ Often when you start noticing something it suddenly appears everywhere. Kind of like when you learn the definition of the word ubiquitous and then it is... everywhere! Recently I become obsessed with circles, curves and arches.
Nov 17, 2017 ~ Sometimes the birds just get too close. I know, this sounds like a strange problem to have, but with large waders or acclimated feeder birds, they can invade your minimum focus distance or overfill the frame and then you risk chopping off feet or clipping wings.
Nov 3, 2017 ~ Early last Friday after I made sure the scheduled blog and notifications were on track to be published, Bill Maroldo and I left for the Surfside area. The forecast was mostly cloudy and it was even sprinkling a bit when we left Sugar Land.
